I have had two questions this week about switch access to music.

There are switch accessible cd players.  SETC has the small portable ones in our lending library that require headphones.   Some kids do not like to have headphones on and often we want to interact and enjoy the music with them...also it helps us observe how they are using the switch if we can hear when they turn it on and off.

Enabling Devices has a switch accessible CD player. $109.95

There is a FREE computer download to use on a PC that allows a child to play and pause a CD using two switches.  I will try it out in the next few days and let you know how it works.

Here is another switch accessible CD player software program-Spectronics: $69

I have some ideas about how to access itunes via a switch using the switch interface pro.  I will try it out this weekend and give more feedback.  Does anyone know of a music appfor the iPad that is switch accessible?

RJ Cooper (www.rjcooper.com) has a variety of switch activated items (www.rjcooper.com/switch-adapted-gadgets/index.html), including a CD player, an mp3 player, and a large iPod remote.

The Switch-Adapted MP3 Player Drive sells for $79.00 and a Dual Button Box for The Player for another $79.00.

The Big Button iPod Remote can be purchased with either dock or IR receiver for $149.00. He says the IR version even works with iPads.

I haven't tried these out, but RJ is a pleasure to work with and will answer any questions you may have.

Great info Julie.  And in comparing some other options in the Enabling Devices Catalog, RJ Coopers prices are better.  Here are some other options I found:

iScanMP3- ($294.95) Play ipod with a single switch

Adapted 2 Switch iHome ($144.95)Turn music on/off and scan through songs with two switchs.

If you have itunes, a switch interface pro, and itunes....here is something you can do without purchasing anything.  Open itunes, click on selected music file, plug in the switch interface pro 6.0-turn the light to green.  Plug one switch in the slot for "down arrow" (second port) and the other into the slot for "Enter"(last port).  You could use a third switch in the "up arrow" slot (first port).  A student can scroll through music and select songs.  This is not so sophisticated, but it works.
