battery interrupters

I was working with a teacher to try to install a battery interrupter on a toy she brought from home. It seems that some battery compartments have notches or channels where the battery fits snugly. However, these hard plastic channels also seem to prevent the battery interrupter from touching the connection to the battery when the interrupter is installed leaving a slight gap which makes it impossible to use in this situation. Is this unusual or do we need to try something else?
thanks, Judy

Judy,
I have run into this and have had to modify the interrupter by trimming the edges with scissors so that it would fit in the space provided. Just be sure after trimming that the edges of the two copper wafers aren't touching each other. This would create a short causing your device to be always on.
