A very bright 14 year old CP student is starting geometry next school year and we originally were thinking she would use MATH TALK software on her laptop computer.   Her teacher says he would like her to use GEOMETRY SKETCH PAD.  Is anyone familiar with this geometry program and can it be voice activated or used by a student who has limited hand control??

basmith,

The Geometer's Sketchpad is a great program for expression of geometry on the computer but it is totally mouse and keyboard driven.  If your student has some kind of reliable mouse input it would be worth trying.  You can borrow it from us on a laptop computer.

On the other hand, MathTalk is the only voiced input application for math that I am familiar with.  She would use it with NaturallySpeaking and a math editing program called Scientific Notebook. (It provides all the math symbols.)  It is more challenging to learn to use than Geometer's Sketchpad but, if she doesn't have reliable mouse input then that would be the way to go outside of using a math scribe.

I have a call in to Ed Rosenthal of Next Generation Technologies (425.744.1100) asking if he is aware of a voiced solution for this purpose.  He's the guy I go to with my tough speech recognition questions.  I'll submit another reply to this question when I have heard from back him.
